Strange Noises in the Night
Those of you who have ever been aboard a boat will know of the incredible noises a vessel can make at sea – and The Guardian is no exception. The cabin door creaks, the rowing seat screeches and that’s not all! Katie’s interesting and exciting insight into life onboard gives you all a little taste of what goes ‘bump in the night’ aboard the Row for Freedom’s Guardian. Listen here.
Julia comments: “Since we left the Spanish port of San Sebastian de la Gomera in the Canary Islands we have covered just under 2000 miles towards Port St Charles in Barbados, we have often thought of how the slaves in the 1800′s felt – as this was the same route that they took. I feel proud to be rowing the same route to raise funds to help release those in modern day slavery and prostitution, and I know we all take our strength from that”.
The route itself is no stranger to the plight for freedom; in the 1800s the same route was used to transport slaves between the UK and the USA.
